I purchased G50 two years ago, never used it. Last month when I opened the box and tried to use it, didn’t start. Screen is flickering when booting.
I tried following: 1) Tried to connect to external monitor – Doesnt get connected 2) REmoved hdd, no effect 3) switched RAMs in slots, tried all combinations, no effect 4) Removed RAM, now it doesn’t flicker but computer keeps on rebooting 5) Removed all the connector inside the laptop, reseated them, no effect 6) showed it to one of the local technician, she says graphics card issue, can’t believe this one for new laptop 7) Just came across your site, please suggest what can be done. Wondering if it is something related to CMOS, which might be an issue becuase of non-use for long time. It is soldered to the motherboard. I have a Lenovo G50-80 which suddenly would no longer start – no F2 F12 or Nova button would work and all that appeared was GRUB on screen with a flashing cursor. Solved by putting hard drive in another machine where it did work. Access the Bios via F2, went to Security tab, then down to Restore Factory Keys and pressed Enter to do the restore.
Also set it to Boot from a DVD first. Replaced it in the G50 and it started with the DVD loaded. Rebooted and everything was back to normal. Sent as information that may help others. In the heat of the night ost rar files.
I am in charge of upgrading a small computer lab from Windows XP to Windows 7 and I'm having a hell of a time with it. One quirk of these computers is that they don't have a DVD drive, so I've made an install flash drive from an ISO we downloaded from Microsoft Volume Licensing. After jumping through a lot of hoops to create a bootable flash drive on XP, I think I have one that should work. I know it should work, because I can plug it into my friend's HP netbook and get to the Windows 7 installation screen, but when I try with the lab computers, I get the following error: Windows Boot Manager Windows failed to start. A recent hardware or software change might be the cause. To fix the problem: 1.
Insert your Windows Installation disc and restart your computer. Choose your language settings and then click 'Next' 3.
Click 'Repair your computer' If you do not have this disc, contact your system administrator or computer manufacturer for assistance. File: Boot BCD Status: 0xc000000 Info: An error occurred while attempting to read the boot configuration data. Now, I know that these computers support booting from a USB, because in the BIOS there's an option that says, 'USB Booting ENABLED,' and the USB drive show up fine in the boot order settings dialog. I was also able to boot to a GRUB setup on my flash drive, but I wasn't able to get the Windows 7 installation to start with that either, mostly because I have no idea how it works.
I tried to use EasyBCD, but it didn't recognize my flash drive as a boot disk. I'm not sure if its relevant, but the computers are Gateway 310S's and use the Thrasher motherboard. I've already checked to see if there's a BIOS update, and we have the most recent one. Does anyone have any ideas to help me? I've put about 10 hours into this problem already and it's really starting to wear on me. Edit: 2000 posts! Did you use bootsect to copy the correct boot sector to your flash disk? I used the same set of instructions to install Windows 7 on a couple of machines. Solishu, may be an issue with the flash drive itself? Those instructions seems to require a computer with Vista, but these computers are all XP. I'm pretty sure it can't be the USB drive, because I can use it to load the Windows 7 installer on my friend's laptop. It's just these computers that I can't get it to work with. Vista or above, yeah.
I actually did most of it on one of my 2008 servers at work. If you've got a machine with 7 on it already that'll work, too. If the drive works in other hardware.Well I dunno.
